"Hi, I'm a jerk. And you are?"

It has occurred to me that pregnancy is the most bizarre thing in the world! As soon as you pee on a stick and see two pink lines your body goes into hyper drive and you begin to act and feel like a completely different person than your were two weeks before. Since this is my third time around, I've discovered that forgetfulness is a recurring theme in my pregnancies. Somehow my body feels like it has too much to do, and it simply can't allow my brain to function in a way that helps me remember where I put my keys or what I came in the kitchen to do. It has also occurred to me that when I'm forgetful of things like how to act like a normal human being, some of the people around me are too.

I was unaware that it is ever okay to tell a woman that she is looking particularly huge that day. Yet somehow, I seem to meet several people a day that feel the need to tell me I'm "so big!". I realize that gaining weight and "showing" is a natural progression of pregnancy, but I didn't realize it was a free pass to lose all tact and sensitivity when commenting on a women's body. I know that I'm a bit sensitive to the weight subject, but come on people!!! Do you really think that asking me if I'm sure I'm not carrying twins or telling me I look alot bigger at this point than I should, is going to make me feel comfortable with my changing body???

So, since this is pregnancy #3 I can only hope that my skin can be tougher this time around. I am busting through my maternity clothes with ease, and baby Leggett seems to be ginormous already. Since my babies have gotten progressively bigger, I can only assume that this one will be close enough to nine pounds to make me a cow by November. However, I must issue a disclaimer to all those with loose tongues, because as my belly grows bigger so do my hormones and one of these days a silly comment, like those mentioned above, might warrant a smack down pregnant lady style!

  1. Oh, I hear you! Smack downs are totally appropriate in this situation :)
